Movember: A Very Hairy Tale | Chapter 1

Well, well, well - it's that time of the year again.

Welcome to Movember ... the month formally known as November.

For the past six years whenever TJ participated in Movember, the only thing that MY lip grew was UP, turning in disgust.

It's itchy. It's scratchy. It reminds me of a spider.

But this year is different. This is the first time that TJ is a part of a hockey team that is actually going one step further than just "being the face of men's health" - they are raising funds that will go directly to supporting prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health challenges.

So, I'm fully supporting TJ's 'stache this month, and I hope that you will, too!

TJ is collecting donations for the next thirty days, and his mustache needs your help. We are thankful for donations of any amount - and if you can't donate, we'll also be so appreciative if you could help spread the word about the Movember initiative by sharing this post with your social networks.

I'll be checking in every couple weeks with TJ's progress ... but today, we start by saying goodbye to my clean shaven guy:

Q. What is your motivation for participating in Movember?
A. To raise awareness for men's health and to help raise money for a good cause.

Q. Have you set a fundraising goal for Movember?
A. $500.

Q. What mo style are you hoping to achieve?
A. I want it long and over my lip.

Q. Is your 'stach going to slow you down on the ice at all?
A. Absolutely not. It will add character into my game.

Q. What does your wife think about all of this?
A. She's never impressed with my mustache.

Q. Complete the following sentence: My mustache __________
A. My mustache is greasy.

We thank you in advance for your support and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me!

  2. TJ doesn't really grow facial hair so this is always quite the interesting feat he tries to pursue each year lol. May the force be with you ;)

  3. ahhh my husband does this as well! he starts it early though and does it for october AND november..just because. lucky me. i think i'd feel better about the 80's porn star cop look if he did it for a good cause ; )

  4. lolololol I like referring to it as an 80s porn star 'stache rather than a child molester 'stache, it really puts a cramp in our relationship when I tell TJ he looks like a child molester lol

  5. Good luck this month (to both of you!). My brother does this too, not because he is part of a team or raising money for a good cause, he just likes the excuse to not shave and grow odd facial hair.

  6. haha! the first time my sister saw jeremy she said he looked like a molester. my dad followed it up with 80's cop porn star. i take porn star over molester any day. any.freaking.day. i'm just counting down until december 1st

  11. What a great family photo :) We all need the reminder that the things we take for granted, someone else is praying for...Actually I wish I could write this message on my forehead today :)

  14. the title really stuck with me. so often we forget the things we have, the things that seem mundane or 'normal' to us are the ones other people are dying to have. whether it be working from home, traveling internationally, or even just having a partner in crime for life. sometimes it's so easy to forget the things that we have that other people would love to have.

  15. you have to be one of the most thought provoking bloggers in blog world. and not to be cheesy... just the title is a lot to think about! it's so easy to forget how lucky we are... thanks for reminding me.

  19. I love the way that a vulnerable husband can just refocus everything in a moment's time. Such a beautiful, lovely, adorable thing that happens in marriage.

Today my heart is so grateful for house shopping (never thought I'd say that!) and warm soup on cold nights and flannel pajamas (still) and early morning runs and blogging inspirations (like yourself!).

  22. Love this. You're absolutely right - nothing is more important than spending quality time with those you love. Also, can I please have that dog? I'm in love with it.

  23. This is so true! There really is nothing more important than spending extra time with your loved ones.

Love the title, by the way. Whenever I'm feeling ungrateful and being whiny, I try to remind myself of that.

  28. I know, me too. I've been framing a lot of things lately with "Will this matter next month?" Blogging has sort of been taking a back seat with life lately, and I'm so torn. I want this space to be a reflection of our life ... but what if the internet disappeared? And all I have are wonderful memories / memories of me freaking out about my blog that no longer exists? I'm crazy lol.

  29. LOL - the next time he's being a little shithead (which happens frequently!) I'll box him up and overnight him to ya ;)

  30. Early morning runs? You go Glenn Coco. ;) ;)

  31. Hush your mush right now! You're the sweetest, my friend <3

    ReplyDelete
  32. Tell me about it. I recently saw a friend post a bitchy Facebook status about how she's sick of seeing people write one thing each day that they are thankful for ... but we seriously don't take time to appreciate things like food, clothing and shelter.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha!! I've thought about placing little sticky notes on my bathroom mirror?? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know, I know. I'm desperately trying to cut myself off from this blog and focus on what's important. Here's to the start of a brand new week ;)

  35. You're the sweetest - Thank you, Karly :)

  36. OMG haha!! Yoga pants and my go-to cardi! But thank you ;)

  37. We most certainly did :) Thank you, friend. xoxo

  38. I've really been trying to be present lately. One thing I've found to be helpful is not bringing my phone everywhere. Like when we take Brutus around the block for a walk, I leave my phone at home so I can focus on that chubby talk and conversation with TJ. Give it a try :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Isn't it? I feel so blessed every time we drive by the mountains. Feel free to come visit when you aren't so busy jet setting yourself!! ;)

  40. They were certainly beautiful! I hope that we're able to watch a concert there this year!!

  41. I've been really taking myself out of the social media picture lately, leaving my cell phone at home, and focusing on who and what is important. I keep reminding myself that the internet could be gone tomorrow!!
