That Time I Took My 2(9) Year Old (Man)Child To The Aquarium

Teej and I went to the Denver Aquarium yesterday and we had such a great time. Since we lived in Hannover, Germany back in 2010 we've made it a point to visit the aquariums and zoos in each of the cities that we've lived in.

When we were walking into the building a mom was walking out with her young child. I'm glad I have a 29 year old man child to take to these types of places ;)

Obviously as soon as we paid our over-priced tickets and I flipped the switch on my camera to start snapping away, I realize my battery was dead. Hashtag Blogger Fail, but most of the photos from our day came out okay using my iPhone camera:

Do you enjoy going to the aquarium and zoo as much as we do?
Which ones have you been to?

    1. Yes! Denver's had three otters, and I think we spent the most time outside their tank watching them! They are such silly little guys :)

  3. I love going to aquariums! Zoos are fun too, but aquariums are tops on my list. I've been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (my favorite), the Baltimore Aquarium, & Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach. Wish I lived closer to one - I'd probably have a yearly pass!

    1. So many people have been to Monterey Bay, I'm going to have to look into that one!! I know, if we ever settled anywhere I would definitely invest in a yearly pass for a zoo or aquarium! I could spend hours in each!!

  4. I'm glad someone else feels the same way about their (man)child. Mine's 3(2) and I feel that way a lot ;)

We've been to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago but in all my life, as Colorado as my 2nd home, never knew they had one. Interesting!

  5. My husband and I love going to aquariums, we have been to the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium a couple times since we live 50 minutes away but we also went to the Newport Aquarium and then on our honeymoon we went to the Aquarium in Charleston, SC and that one is my favorite so far! probably because we were on our honeymoon and we bought the backstage passes to the sea turtle experience which was awesome!!! We should start making it a tradition to stop at aquariums while we are on vacations, especially if we have a rainy day that can't really be spent on the beach.

    1. Hahaha! At 2pm on Tuesdays they have a tiger feeding and we learned allll about it! The owners wanted to have the entire eco system represented, to explain how if there were no tigers to eat the fish then there would be over population and blah blah blah. That's basically all I heard. ;)

  7. Love this! Trrrrrust me I call my husband a child all the time. But we love them being children at heart don't we? (most of the time!)

Denver is high up on our list of cities to visit next, that and Chicago. My husband is a huge Rockies fan so we'd like to come out when we can catch a game. Looks like I'll have to add the aquarium to the list of must-dos :)

  14. I love aquariums and zoos! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in CA and made a point to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (seriously the best one I've been to... mainly b/c they have a Giant Pacific Octopus and they're my favorite) and the San Diego Zoo and safari park. It was an incredible experience! We got to see a baby panda!

By the way, I totally love that shot you got of the sting ray that looks like he's smiling!

    1. lololol your comment made me giggle, Brianne. Don't feel TOOOO bad - we learned all about the eco system at the aquarium, and if fish weren't hunted for food there would be overpopulation. So ... enjoy ;)

  22. Geez, its been years since I've been to an aquarium! Perhaps I should take my brother to the one in downtown Dallas as I'm lacking a manchild of my own ;) He is a science nerd, so I could pretend to take his photo when I'm really photographing the aquatic life instead :)

PS ... good thing that jaw isn't on the ice when TJ is, he wouldn't be nearly as scary!

  23. I love the Denver aquarium. Every time we visit cousins out there we make a point to visit it! My kids really like it too. I love the new (since I've been there, new to me) jellyfishes. They only had a smallish exhibit when I went a couple years ago and last year I was pleasantly surprised by the additions. Oh and the kids loved the flash flood sight. So cool

    1. Ah no way, small world! Yes, the jellyfish were very neat! And I love that they have the tigers, too. There is a 2pm tiger feeding on Tuesdays, and we learned quite a bit about them - it was pretty interesting if you're into that kind of stuff! The sharktank was pretty cool (and scary!) too!

  24. I love aquariums/zoos! I live in Vancouver, so we have a huge aquarium here and we just got penguins - adorable. We have a zoo too but not a lot of exotic animals since it's cold here in Canada... and it's way out in the country. Anyway, I went there as a kid and saw a tiger swallow an entire whole chicken carcass once. Awesome.
