What's So Pinteresting About That?

I was scrolling through the "Popular" section of Pinterest last night and realized that Pinterest is really starting to suck. It seems (to me, anyways) that it's the same regurgitated pins and re-pins over and over and over again. What's so Pinteresting about that?

I personally only really pin recipes and quotes, but I'm also drawn to following people who pin lovely images of home decor and DIY projects. I'm inspired by colors and random beautiful things, and when I log onto Pinterest for my daily dose of a time wasting activity inspiration, that's what I hope to find.

My favorite Pinterest accounts to follow are:

Honestly YUM on Pinterest

  1. I no longer click on the popular tab and just go straight for the everything tab. I find so many interesting things that way!

    1. Thank you SO MUCH for that suggestion, Melissa! For some reason I always skip right over it, but I will definitely be using that as my go-to to find new things. xoxo

  2. I agree, I feel like I see less and less new content that I like. I wonder why that is. I'm also trying to be better about following only boards I like. I'm not interested in baby things, or inspirational quotes (sorry!) so I try to unfollow those boards but follow recipes, organizing, home decor, and blog stuff.
I don't follow any of the ones you have listed, I'll have to check them out! I don't think I follow you either, I'll have to find you now.

    1. I think there are just sooooo-many-people on Pinterest now, compared to when it first debuted for a year or two, that it's become to easy to repin/recycle things. I love finding organization tips and home decor, too - even though I'm so disorganized and we won't have a home for who knows how long, lol. I hope that you found a few off my suggestions that you like :) Have a great day Stephanie :) xo

  3. I totally agree, things do seem very repetitive. I actually stopped using Pinterest for a while because I was getting annoyed, but now that I'm wedding planning I've been finding it helpful. It's also great to find recipes and home stuff as you said, one of my faves is MariaKillam who is an interior designer, and does a lot of work with color. Even though I don't have a house I still like to pretend!

    1. Eeek! I had our entire wedding planned and then Pinterest happened and I changed our theme, color scheme and centerpieces more times than I want to admit to!! I will look up Maria, thanks for the suggestion :)

  4. Oh man I'm now a follower of the Glitter Guide...great suggestion! I find great pins from my friends who I follow...but I will try the "Everything" tab instead of the "popular" tab like Stephanie said.

    1. Glitter Guide is AMAZING! The "Everything" tab is going to be my new go-to as well :) Thanks for stopping by, Kalen!

  5. Don't bother with the popular, most likely someone you follow already pinned it. Joy Cho pins some good stuff http://www.pinterest.com/ohjoy/ and Kevin from Closet Cooking has amazing food pins http://www.pinterest.com/ClosetCooking/ and Victoria Smith always has something unique http://www.pinterest.com/sfgirlbybay/

  6. Is it weird that I never clicked on the Popular tab? The everything tab seems inspirational enough to me LOL :)

  7. I never look at the popular page. I mostly only pin quotes and things I find funny anyway.

  8. Pinterest is kinda "meh" to me lately. I would much rather read blogs for inspiration!

  9. I am so in and out on pinterest. I actually just discovered the popular page this week. haha! Can you say BEHIND? Anyways, it seems like I am either enthralled or I don't touch it for months.

    1. Same thing here ... not so much months, but I can abstain for a week or so at a time ;) hashtag Pinterest Problems :/ lol

  10. You know, I never click on the Popluar tab. lol I either click on whatever specific thing I want to look at ("DIY" "Food") or I just click on "everything". But it does kind of get repetitive. Sometimes I take a break for a few days or about a week or so & that usually helps.
But I'm drawn to the workouts, food, animal stuff, funnies, home stuff (d├ęcor & ideas), photography, DIY/craft & quotes...lol
I'll have to go follow you now!

  11. i think it's also sucking because advertisers get on their and pin crap no one ares about, or maybe that's just me. but totally agree. need to follow whit speaks!

    1. Whit is AMAZING on Pinterest, her images are always so fresh and clean and original :) In regards to advertisers - they piss me off, but I feel like a lot of commercial or business accounts are nice because they don't pin or repin the same crap that circulates through :)

  15. I know what you mean, I've noticed that too! A lot of the popular pins I've seen time and time again. I'm always looking for new pins to pin. I'll have to check out some of the ones you've shared.

  16. Love this post! I've become a lot less consistent with pinterest, and honestly only go on there to pin something I've found from another website {which is usually either home decor, wedding, or fashion -- even though I don't have enough money to ever get anything I've pinned...}

  17. I've never gotten sucked in to Pinterest the way others have! I know I'm in the minority but I'm not that crafty and I don't cook and I'm hopeless at fashion. So I guess it's cool to have one less timesuck and when people blog about things they are "over" because it's been on pinterest, it's new and cool to me!

    1. Hahaha I love your way of thinking, Lauren! I mainly on go on there for recipes and Someecards, but once I start it's sometimes hard to stop, and an hour goes by being a lameball on the computer. I give you major props for not engaging in the madness! xo

  18. I love following my friend Jill. She's a professional photographer; she mainly does boudoir photos... and on the flip side, she's a HUGE nerd, like me! Oh, let's not forget her sense of humor. When I come to my homepage, it's all scantily clad women, Doctor Who, Star Trek, a DIY sewing project, and highly inappropriate humor. Really, it's the strangest collection of pins one could imagine.
Oh! And we're both cop wives & dog lovers, so let's add in guns and dogs to that list; and NOW it's the oddest display of pins one could imagine.

ps: I also follow you, and I steal half your DIY and food pins. ;-)

    1. I signed up as soon as it came out too - it was so new and fun and interesting back then! Hahaha, I definitely don't get lost in IG the way that I do in Pinterest, but I can see how easy that would be, people are so talented on there!! :)

  20. I always forget to pin because you're right, it's starting to suck!

  21. I completely agree. I mean, I LOVE my Pinterest... but lately it seems like it's all the same things I already have pinned. But I do still spend hours on there looking for recipe ideas because it does seem like those are endless ;)

    1. Pinterest has become my go-to for recipes! That little search bar is amazing. Pinterest is the perfect time-waster. When I can't sleep in the middle of the night I'll pull the app up on my phone lol. I don't suggest it though, I think I'm burning my retinas and going blind hahaha!!
